Generating COBOL Code

Libero has some built-in knowledge about the COBOL source format that makes it a little easier to generate COBOL code. The COBOL format is 80-column text, where the first six columns are a numeric sequence number. The last eight columns are a comment.

• If the schema looks like COBOL, Libero generates COBOL as a result. It ignores anything in the first 6 or last 8 columns of the schema.
• When the -style option is -style=cobol, Libero checks that data names are not longer than 30 characters, which is the standard ANSI maximum for data names.
• You can set $cob_comment to control what Libero places in columns 73-80 of the output source. Normally this is the date, e.g. 96/01/31.
