Hello !

I can't figure out precisely what your problem is.
I'm using Mercury as relay mailserver and had never a problem.
To send mail much faster, i use the mail drop facility instead of creating
a smtp connection:
format a message, name it xxx.101, put it in the QUEUE directory and
Mercury takes care of all the rest. The program to do that is very simple
compared to a complete smtp session where you have to check every MX
response message.
